Optical turbulence measurements and modeling over Monterey Bay

چکیده
Free space optical (FSO) communication in a maritime environment involves unique challenges due to the existing environmental conditions. An important degradation factor is atmospheric turbulence that causes irradiance fluctuations (scintillation) at detector. A significant amount of theoretical and experimental research has been conducted quantify those effects. This paper presents results an campaign took place during September October 2020 over Monterey Bay California. The main goal this was measure water compare with model called Navy Surface Layer Model (NAVSLaM), developed by Meteorology Department Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), as well conduct regression analysis for predictive modeling based on parameters. showed very good agreement between theory experiment.

Modeling tides in Monterey Bay, California
from the regional ocean modeling system (ROMS), has three one-way nested domains with the finest resolution of 1.6 km in the horizontal direction and 32 levels in the vertical direction. In present research, the tidal simulation of the system is validated against tide gauges, ADCP current observations, high-frequency radar surface-current observations, and compared with the output from two baro...
متن کاملAerosol properties derived from aircraft multiangle imaging over Monterey Bay
The first generic and climatological aerosol retrievals using AirMISR data are presented. Multiangle observations at 672 and 867 nm, in a cloud-free region over dark water in Monterey Bay on June 29, 1999, yield complementary generic and climatological results. The generic retrieval produces cross-section-weighted, column-mean aerosol properties: midvisible aerosol optical depth between 0.05 an...
متن کاملField Measurements and 3D Numerical Modeling of Hydrodynamics in Chabahar Bay, Iran
As the first phase of a series of monitoring and modeling studies of Iranian coastal areas, Chabahar Bay, located on the north coast of the Gulf of Oman, was under a comprehensive monitoring and modeling study in 2006-2007. The study included an extensive one-year field measurements program to help understanding the ongoing processes in the bay and provide inputs or boundary conditions and vali...
متن کاملSimultaneous CODAR and OSCR Measurements of Ocean Surface Currents in Monterey Bay
Presently, three Coastal Ocean Dynamics Applications Radars, or CODARs, which are ocean surface current measuring radars, are operated around Monterey Bay, California and provide data hourly to an ONR-funded real time environmental monitoring system operated through UC Santa Cruz known as REINAS. CODARs operate using Bragg scatter of high frequency (HF) radio waves from the sea surface to infer...
متن کاملOptimal Pollution Mitigation in Monterey Bay
High-frequency (HF) radar technology produces detailed velocity maps near the surface of estuaries and bays. The use of velocity data in environmental prediction, nonetheless, remains unexplored. In this paper, we uncover a striking flow structure in coastal radar observations of Monterey Bay, along the California coastline. This complex structure governs the spread of organic contaminants, suc...
